The way the adults in the camp looked after us and how they were in general was really good.

OUR TEAM

Camp Crusoe is a tight-knit team of friends and family who are committed to enriching children’s lives.

The core group have many years experience working with children both on summer camps and in the class room.

At camp they are supported by a highly trained and motivated team of camp counsellors, many of whom have worked at camp before and are planning a career working with children.

JEREMY

Founder & Camp Director

After school, Jeremy went with his best friend Ben to work at Camp Chingachgook in upstate New York and, having turned up a sceptical British teenager, immediately caught the Summer Camp bug in a big way. He left fully converted to the ethos of camp with a dream to one day start his own back home so that British children could enjoy the same wonderful experience.

Having spent 7 years in the British Army, followed by six more working overseas, Jeremy returned home in 2017 to finally pursue his passion and start a summer camp of his very own, based on the American model.

Jeremy and the whole team look forward to welcoming you to Camp Crusoe!

AMY

Assistant Camp Director

Amy is a four year veteran at Camp Crusoe and 2025 will be her second year working as an “AD” at camp.

In her third year reading Criminology and Sociology at uni in London, Amy has an eye for detail that is perfect for organising the complicated program and staying on top of mysterious goings on at camp (such as missing tuck!).

Over her years at camp, Amy has had the opportunity to try out all of the amazing activities on offer - her favourite being the high ropes, craft sessions, camp fire and skits.

Amy is a firm favourite with campers and staff alike and is always a friendly face!

Billy

Assistant Camp Director

Billy has many years at camp under his belt, mainly in America at Camp Mason where he started as a camp counsellor and over 4 summers worked his way up to “AD”.

Never one to sit still, Billy is currently working and travelling in Australia before he comes home to pick up where he left off back at Camp Crusoe.

Billy takes on many of the whole camp events during each session, from the famous fashion show to camp fires, skit night to DJ-ing at the camp disco! Wherever you hear laughter that’s where you’ll find Billy.

Back for his second year at Camp Crusoe in 2025, we can’t wait to have him back.

SUE

Camp Matron

Sue is a paediatric nurse with over 20 years experience. After qualifying with an advanced diploma in paediatric nursing from Bournemouth University, Sue spent fifteen years at Poole Hospital before making the move to Port Regis school where she is currently the health centre manager.

At Camp Crusoe, Sue is camp Matron and looks after the physical and emotional wellbeing of our campers, holding a daily surgery after breakfast and on call 24 hours a day to see to any injuries or to administer medication.

As well as her nursing role, Sue is a friendly face around camp and always has time for any young campers who are feeling homesick or who are in need of extra pastoral care.

KATHY

Camp Matron

Kathy shares the medical responsibilities at camp with her sister-in-law Sue, as well as taking a lead role in the pastoral care given to the campers.

Kathy has spent the majority of her illustrious nursing career at Poole Hospital down on the south coast. She has a vast amount of experience, having worked at one point or other in most of the departments within the hospital.

As well as looking after her own family, Kathy spent many years volunteering in the Girl Guides, leading many camps of her own. She brings this wonderful knowledge and experience to Camp Crusoe, where she can often be found joining in games, acting in a skit or leading a song.

ARCHIE

Chief Good Boy

Hailing from Charleston, South Carolina, Archie is no stranger to long hot summers and camp. He loves nothing more than camp season as it guarantees him weeks of sleeping in the sun and all the belly-rubs he can take!

At the grand old age of 13, Archie is slowing down a bit but still has it in him to patrol camp, warding off any cats and squirrels that have their eye on afternoon tea.

A softy at heart, Archie is great with all the campers, helping those who are missing their own pooch, and has converted many a dog-shy child into lifelong dog lovers.

OUR CAMP COUNSELLORS

Our camp counsellors are fun and vivacious 17-25 year olds from across Britain from all backgrounds. Many have worked at camp before or have experience working with children in other capacities. They have all attended a rigorous 7 day training course which teaches them all they need to give our campers the very best experience and care. As with all the staff, they have passed an enhanced DBS background check.

At camp, each counsellor is a role model, mentor, confidante, friend and leader to our campers. Each counsellor has a group of 8 - 10 campers for whom they are responsible. Together, they live, eat, joke and support each other under the caring eye of their counsellor. For some campers, the bond they develop with their counsellor is the highlight of camp.

If you like the sound of joining us for summer camp 2025 as a camp counsellor then check out the info about our training and get in touch. It will be the best thing you did with your summer!
