Are you considering a career working with children? Do you like the idea of using your summer holidays to give a uniquely happy and beneficial experience to children? Perhaps you need a summer job or internship but don’t fancy being cooped up inside?
If so, then come and join the Camp Crusoe team for Summer Camp 2023 and you will have a truly unforgettable experience all while being a positive role model to grateful youngsters - and getting paid for it too!
Why work at Camp Crusoe?
Because it’s awesome fun and a great experience!
Working at camp you gain valuable leadership experience managing a small group of campers.
You quickly learn the importance of communication, accountability, enthusiasm, creativity, and spontaneity. There will be many times you have to think on your feet to keep everyone engaged, safe, and happy.
You will become a behaviour management expert; learning to manage your own behaviour as well as the campers’ behaviour when you are all tired, hot and bothered.
You work with a close-knit team in a real life environment, forming friendships that will last a lifetime as well as relationships which could lead to numerous opportunities.
You will leave with training and experience that will serve you well in the next job.
You will get paid to do a summer job that is far more fun and rewarding than stacking shelves or pulling pints - and more character-building than doing an internship in an office!
You will get global experience in our diverse camp setting as campers and staff come from around the world. You may even discover something new about yourself or a hobby that you absolutely love. We will happily write you a referral if you work hard and still smile at the end of the summer!
There are a variety of roles at camp, so read on to see what is suitable for you…
Camp Counsellor
We are recruiting 18-25 year olds looking to take on the exciting challenge of being a camp counsellor.
Being a counsellor at Camp Crusoe offers invaluable experience of how to work with and relate to young people plus is an amazing boost to your own self-confidence and people skills.
The role will appeal to:
Young people who are looking to build their CV.
College and University students looking for well paid holiday work.
Sixth formers who want to add to their personal statements for university applications.
Anyone looking to take the first steps towards a career with children, including aspiring teachers, youth workers, and coaches.
As a camp counsellor you will lead a group of about 10 children with a co-counsellor, taking part in all of their activities: you will eat at their table, join in their games, put them to bed in the evening, and wake up with them in the morning (or they will wake you up!)
Camp counsellors are responsible for keeping their group happy, safe and cared for. You will get to know the children really well, and will become an older brother or sister figure to them. For many children, the relationship they develop with you will be the highlight of their holiday.
At camp, you will be one of about 16 counsellors along with a Director and Assistant Director, who will plan the week and deliver larger activities. There will also be a camp nurse, support staff, CiTs (see below), catering crew, and a small team of domestic staff.
Camp counsellors will need to attend the Summer Camps Trust training course, specifically designed for camp leaders. You will learn about the role of a camp counsellor, working with children, keeping them safe both physically and emotionally, and making sure they get the maximum benefit from the experience of residential camp. Trainees will learn about organisation, management and leadership skills. You will also go away with a large stock of ideas for children’s activities – lots of games, indoor & outdoor, quiet & boisterous, songs to sing, things to make, stories to tell, puzzles to solve, and much, much more.
Have an amazing time while helping others - apply today for Summer Camp 2025!
